Addiction to social media on the internet
Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Youtube are all household names by now, so it's no surprise that some people may enjoy these “web 2.0” sites just a little too much. This addiction to social media on the Internet can be a serious issue. People can lose touch with their loved ones, becoming instead obsessed with reading the latest status updates from their online friends.
This losing touch is ironic, given that the nature of these sites is usually to bring people closer together. But, as the saying goes, “all things in moderation.” It's possible to become so wrapped up in responding to everybody's comments and checking in to see what everybody is doing that you forget the purpose of the sites.
Really heavy cases of addiction to social media on the Internet are also huge time killers. Productivity goes out the window as all of your time is spent hitting that “refresh” button. Nice day outside? Instead of going out to the park with your friends, you might find yourself discussing the great weather while cooped up in your office, hunched over your computer screen.
If someone you know has an addiction to social media on the Internet, hope is not lost. Entice them off the Internet and outside. Get them to interact with people in real life and they'll soon remember what they're missing. If you have to, cut them off from the Internet for a few days until their fingers no longer itch for that user profile page. They'll thank you for it eventually.
