Eyeshadow Do’s And Don’ts

With eye makeup these days, it’s all about the smokey eye and long, spidery eyelashes. All you need to create a smokey look is some good quality eye shadow and some good shadow brushes (brushes, not sponges. Sponges don’t work quite as well and tend to lend a dirty, rather than smokey, look to your make up). You can use any colors, but the best for the smokey eye are greys and charcoals, but some other popular colors are plums, are denim blues. You’ll need a shadow trio for this, I’ll explain the use and purpose of each.

First, you’ll want to apply eye shadow base which will create a surface that eye shadow can stick to, so you don’t end up with all you shadow in the crease halfway through the evening. After you’ve applied your base, start with the lightest shade and apply it just under the brow, on the brow bone. This highlights your brow bone and draw attention to your eyes.

Then you’ll use the medium shade and apply it to your entire lid, ever so slightly winging it out just a tad to give your eye that smokey cat eye look. This is to make your eye pop and add definition.

Finally, take the darkest shade and ever so carefully, apply it to just the crease. This serves to further accentuate the finer points of your eye and add depth and give the smokiness the final edge.

Like anything, this will take practice to perfect it, but once you do the results will be…well, eye-popping!
